The Melbourne String Ensemble was established in 1985 to promote
excellence in the performance of music through the development, education and
training of young Australian musicians. The members of the Melbourne String
Ensemble share a common love of string music and performing together in
concerts. The orchestra performs in an annual subscription concert series and
for major community occasions and events. It has toured extensively over the
last 18 years in Europe and Australasia. In 2003 and 2005, the MSE toured Germany and visited Stuttgart where it performed with the
Stuttgart Youth Symphony Orchestra. In 2007, MSE toured Sweden and Estonia and has since hosted return
visits from both German and Estonian orchestras. The ensemble toured Spain and Portugal during
2010 and is touring Slovenia and Croatia in 2013.
