Born in 1948 in Basel, a dual citizen of Switzerland and Austria.
Graduated in 1968. In the period 1978 – 1972 studied philosophy 1 and obtained a degree in linguistics from the University of Paris.
Studied the violin at the Geneva Conservatory of Music with Professor Corrad Roman (1972 - 1976). 1977: Studied the viola. 1978: Awarded the Premier prix de Virtuosité avec distinction in the class of Professor Ron Golan at the Geneva Conservatory of Music.
1979 - 1980: First viola soloist of the symphonic orchestra Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse.
1980 - 1991: First viola soloist in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Soloist performances with Bernard Haitink (Bartók), Riccardo Chailly (Hindemith: Schwanendreher) and Leopold Hager (Walton) at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam and The Hague.
1981 - 1991: Professor at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam.
Since 1991: University Professor at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz.
Soloist career:
Held concerts with all Dutch orchestras and international orchestras such as Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Mozarteum Salzburg, London Chamber Players, Orchestre de Bordeaux, Orchestre du Capitol de Toulouse, "I Fiamminghi” and others. As a soloist, he went on a tour with The Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra Hilversum (touring Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands), and with Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg (concerts in the Netherlands).
As a chamber musician: Performed chamber music in all types of ensembles ranging from a duet (soloists nights) to an octet. Permanent member of various ensembles: harp quintet Amsterdam, string trio Parkanyi, Companelli Amsterdam. In 1996 he founded a string trio Interarte.
Jury member at international competitions for viola in Geneva, at ARD competitions in Munich and Markneukirchen.
