Is a name with over seventy
years of tradition on the Slovenian music scene. The great work of its first
members (L.Pfeifer, A.Dermelj, V. Šušteršič, Č.Šedlbauer) has been resumed in
1983 by a new group of musicians: Monika Skalar, Karel Žužek, Franc Avsenek and
Stane Demšar. The quartet regularly appears on concert stages in Slovenia and
abroad, its studio recordings are available on Slovenian and international
labels. The quartet performs a vast repertoire of all music periods, however
their special engagement is in presenting the works of Slovenian composeres.
Two of their CDs were released by the RTV Slovenia record label – the first one
is dedicated entirely to Hugo Wolf, whereas the second one features of Ludwig
van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms. The quartet' s members have also performed
as soloists with the Slovenia Simphony Orchestra, and one of these recordings –
the Concerto for quartet and orchestra by Bohuslav Martinu – has been released
in the USA by Stradivari Records.
In 1997 the Ljubljana String
Quartet received the Betteto Award – the highest Slovenian award for music
performers.
